Newcomers Ladies Golf
The Newcomers Ladies Golf group will hold their annual oraganizational
meeting on April 4 at 8:30 followed by golf at Chatham Seaside Links.
All golfers of all abilities are welcome - play is on Wednesday mornings-
call Joanne Donoghue at 945-5957 to attend or for more information.
Men's Golf
The Newcomers Men's Golf group is ready to kickoff the new season in this
month -- March. Paul Greenough will head up the linksmen for the coming
season. Call Paul Greenough at 945-4732 for further details.
Join the email list for current information. Paul takes
over from Don Nolan, who has led the way for the past three years. Paul
holds the record for the most rounds played with this group. The golf
group plays weekly at the Chatham Seaside Links or the Harwich Port Golf
Course. Course conditions, summer crowds and the like determine the site.
Anywhere from one to three foursomes gather, and there is always room
for more. For the most part it's nine hole golf, then it's coffee and
a recap of the scores.
The group also takes to the road for several major events
at the Highland Links in Truro, Chequessett Gold Club in Wellfleet, Cranberry
Valley in Harwich or the Captains Golf Course in Brewster with a luncheon
celebration to honor the winners. Nine holes at the Seaside Links or Harwich
Port range from $17 to $20 for greens fees. Most golfers walk, though
carts can be rented at Chatham. The group plays on Tuesday or Wednesday
about 9:00 a.m.
All golfers are welcome, beginners to low handicappers alike.
The group has all kinds. If you are brand new to the game or play with
other groups, everyone is welcome. Call today and start playing now!

Newcomers Biked the Boston Byways
Participants in the Biking Group took an adventure bike ride to Boston
recently. The group drove to Boston, parked near South Station, took the
bikes on the T to Harvard Square, biked along the Charles River back to
Boston, took sidewalks and city streets to Charlestown, where they had
lunch at the `Tavern on the Water' with a gorgeous view of the city. They
took the T ferry boat to Rowes Wharf, and rode via the Boston Harbor walk
back to the cars. Mark McGrath, the fearless leader who, with Patti McGrath,
planned the ride, created a slide show and the link is below.
View a slide show
of the 12-mile ride. Acrobat Reader is required. Warning--large file
(8.72 Mb); dialup connections may take a day or two to download the file;
appropriate but repetitive music included. Use your down arrow key on
the keyboard to advance the slides.

President Gerry McDowell is now a published author. The September 2006
issue of Prime Time Cape Cod published his poem, Summer Memory.
Two of our members were featured recently in the local press.
Suzy McDowell had an interview
in the May 5 edition of the Cape Cod Chronicle about her many volunteer
activities, especially the VITAL program to teach computer use to the
blind. Mary Brunelle was the subject of a feature story in Prime
Time Cape Cod, in the May 2005 edition. See
below for more information about the VITAL program.
The Chatham Harwich Newcomers Club was featured in the Sunday
Cape Cod Times on November 28, 2004. The story was about how newcomers
clubs help new Cape residents get connected to their neighbors and community.
The article is archived and requires a fee in order to see it online at
the website of the Cape Cod Times.
