Bourne Scallop Festival via the Cape Cod Central Railroad -Sunday, September 23, 2007

On a beautiful, sunny Sunday (Sept. 23rd) 55 Newcomers boarded the Cape Cod Central Rail- road at Hyannis for the Bourne Scallop Festival. We had a pleasant trip alongside cranberry bogs, the great Barnstable marsh and the Cape Cod Canal. Once at the Festival we enjoyed the craft fair, music provided by the Northeast Navy Band, and, or course, a wonderful scallop lunch. We even had time to browse through some of the neighboring antique shops, or to take a walk along the Canal. A few of the more adventerous tried the giant slide. While waiting for the train to return us to Hyannis, we had a rare opportunity to see the historic railroad bridge lowered. It was also a real treat to cross over the Canal at a height of 8 feet. It provided quite a different perspective from the usual high crossing over the bridges. We arrived back at the Hyannis Depot a little tired, but happy after a great day.
